How We Support Financial Educators and Communities Across Canada

Leading Training & Credentials for Financial Educators

More than 5,000 graduates have been prepared and certified through the NFEC’s Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI) coursework. These graduates have completed more than 300,000 hours of professional development and served over 1.4 million individuals across every state in the U.S. and 71 countries.

We also developed industry standards defining the qualifications of financial education instructors, and these standards underpin the CFEI program. We collaborated with the Danielson Group to develop the Framework for Teaching Personal Finance, which aligns with InTASC principles and defines the capabilities, knowledge, and best teaching practices that top-grade financial educators must possess. When an instructor meets these requirements, they receive the CFEI credential – indicating that they lead financial instruction with rigor, ethics, and methodological excellence.

Educator Credentials

Launch-to-Impact Program Support

The NFEC delivers comprehensive support that allows educators and program managers to concentrate on achieving real results. Whether you are building a new initiative or enhancing an existing one, we assist with program design, staffing, and expansion to ensure high-quality financial education with measurable impact. Our objective is straightforward: improve program performance while minimizing the time, expense, and staffing demands required to succeed.

Financial education continues to grow as a community-driven effort, and we aim to broaden access so organizations of all sizes can implement effective programs. Through ready-to-use tools, professional training, funding support, and partnerships at the local level, we enable communities to provide practical financial education that strengthens skills, confidence, and long-term financial stability.

Program Support

Community Mobilization – Local Chapter Leadership

Local support and grassroots advocacy are spearheaded by our state-level chapters, who mobilize instructors to launch financial wellness campaigns that can be scaled. NFEC chapters support and partner with community leaders to deliver these life-changing programs – and celebrate their successes by sponsoring award ceremonies that honor top students, instructors, and those who take community action.

Each chapter forms an Advisory Board comprised of local experts. This board emphasizes three priorities: 1) Advocacy – promoting multi-layered initiatives to attract funding opportunities and influence policy; 2) Empowerment – providing people and their families with critical financial wellness skills; and 3) Relationships – forging strategic partnerships in the education, corporate, media, and legislative sectors to make financial education widespread and sustainable. In combination, these priorities transform classroom gains into lasting community impact.

Community Leadership

National Advocacy with Community Impact

The NFEC advances action designed to make sure youth graduate from secondary school with the personal finance skills they need to become independent adults. We do so using a multi-tiered, results-driven approach to advocacy – lifting standards, influencing public opinion, motivating policy change, and targeted systemic reform. This movement forges partnerships, establishes standards, and works with legislators to make financial wellness a top priority in the country across all sectors including health, education, and the economy.

Mobilizing community champions who join our United for Financial Literacy Advocacy Committee, we advance the financial education cause through targeted quarterly campaigns.
