Honors & Awards for Financial Educators in Canada

Educators have the greatest impact on participant success – often influencing outcomes more than any curriculum, platform, or instructional tool alone. At the National Financial Educators Council, we recognize the individuals across Canada who help transform financial knowledge into meaningful action and long-term financial capability. We celebrate financial education professionals and program leaders whose efforts drive measurable learner progress, strengthen community initiatives, and support broader financial literacy advocacy efforts.

Through initiatives such as our Financial Educators Day award and Program Spotlights, we highlight educators and organizations that demonstrate clear learner outcomes and effective program delivery. These recognition efforts help raise public awareness while showcasing successful models that can inspire and guide financial education programs in communities throughout Canada.

National Financial Educator Day Canada

Financial Educators Day honors the individuals dedicated to strengthening financial capability within their communities. In addition to recognizing classroom educators, the celebration also acknowledges volunteers, financial professionals, community advocates, and others who contribute their time and expertise to teaching financial literacy. Each of these contributors plays an important role in expanding access to financial education and supporting positive financial outcomes for learners.

Observed annually on the last Friday of April, Financial Educators Day has grown into a recognized occasion for appreciation, awareness, and advocacy. Support from policymakers, public figures, and organizations across the financial literacy sector has helped establish the day as an opportunity to highlight the value of financial education and the people who deliver it.

Since its launch in 2014, Financial Educators Day has recognized more than 1,000 individuals across 43 countries for their contributions to advancing financial literacy and education efforts worldwide.

NFEC Graduate Spotlight

Sucheta Thakkar

Financial Literacy Advocate

Sucheta Thakkar is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor℠ (CFEI®) with a strong foundation in academia and hands‑on experience in stock market investing. Her work in financial education is deeply informed by her MPhil research on financial planning among women, which revealed that women across diverse backgrounds often make similar financial decisions—many of which do not align with their long‑term financial goals. This research shaped her belief that financial behaviors are formed early and that access to structured, unbiased financial education is essential from a young age.

Sucheta’s approach to financial education further evolved through her life experiences as a mother and expatriate. Observing her son in a residential creative arts program highlighted the power of inclusive, creative learning environments to build confidence and engagement. Inspired by this, she founded GET EDUWISE, a financial education initiative dedicated to empowering women and children through interactive, creative, and age‑appropriate learning experiences.

As Founder and Financial Educator at GET EDUWISE, Sucheta focuses on building financial confidence, decision‑making skills, and practical financial literacy in safe and inclusive spaces. She is committed to advancing NFEC’s mission by helping learners develop the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed financial choices and support long‑term financial well‑being.

Program Showcases and Highlights

Regardless how large a program is or how many people participate, every patron’s contribution to our mission has value. When even one person receives life-changing financial wellness knowledge, that effort makes a difference. Following we present a few spotlight features illustrating how NFEC graduates and patrons are affecting people’s lives in communities around the world.

Our purpose in sharing these stories is to showcase how programs work – by highlighting which components were well-received, how the instructor adapted to the audience needs, and how others can achieve similar success. If you would like to nominate a program to be featured or would like assistance turning your results into a case study for publication, submit your story here.
