Standards for Financial Educators in Canada
The NFEC created the Framework for Teaching Personal Finance – the first and only set of national standards dedicated specifically to financial education instructors. This Framework sets out defined benchmarks that support more effective instruction and help learners build real-world money management skills.
Built in partnership with the Danielson Group and aligned with InTASC standards, the Framework translates Charlotte Danielson’s teaching model into the context of financial literacy. Rooted in constructivist learning theory, it outlines 22 research-based components that detail the knowledge, skills, and performance expectations educators are expected to demonstrate. It also serves as a practical guide to instructional methods linked to measurable learner outcomes and continuous professional growth. Danielson’s Framework for Teaching is supported by extensive research and is broadly recognized among educators, administrators, policymakers, and academics. It identifies the competencies that distinguish effective educators and defines performance levels that reflect varying degrees of teaching proficiency. Adopted as an approved model in more than 20 states, it remains the most widely-used instructional framework across the United States.
